Intentions for the New Year

Sarahasheville, dwell

As the year comes to a close, setting goals and intentions for the upcoming year is one of my favorite things to do. Not that you can’t reflect and set new goals throughout the year, it’s just more fun to start at the beginning.

I recently saw a quote from a new friend from Junior League that resonated with me… “Instead of saying ‘I don’t have time’, try saying ‘It’s not a priority’ and see how that feels.” This year, I want to make a choice to simplify (quoting Emily Ley!). There is enough time, it is just a matter of prioritizing that time. I think I can manage it! Here’s to 2016!

Blog More, Tweet More

I’ve started some great series this year on my blog and want to continue blogging into 2016. I love featuring weddings and inspiring Asheville professionals with a little bit of social media and travel mixed in. My husband and I are about to close on a townhouse and so there may be some DIY in our future to share online.

Develop a Website

While I’ve made some edits to this blog and am very familiar with WordPress, I haven’t changed much within the structure of the site. One of my goals this year is to create a website (or two) for a small business (or two). To get there, I’ve started learning CSS & Javascript using Codecademy, auditing Harvard CS50x online, and playing around on Code.org. I took basic print and web design classes in college, and now want to investigate these avenues a bit farther. I have a long way to go, but if anyone needs help with their website, let me know! I love how there is something so technical, yet poetic behind the scenes of gorgeous user experience.

Exercise More

I’m so excited for this one! I am going to dance more and learn to run this year. [I’m writing this here, so you can hold me to this resolution.] I found a few adult modern classes in Asheville that start in January and I couldn’t be more excited to dance. I have barely danced since I moved to Asheville and really miss it. Shane, you were right. You have to force yourself to have a routine and go take exercise classes after college unless you work in the wonderful world of dance and fitness. Gone are the days when I had modern three days a week at 10:10AM (plus a zillion other classes and rehearsals). I think I’ll try modern for a while and then venture to the adult ballet classes. I’m completely rusty. Also, Brent and I are going to sign up for the Race to the Taps marathon… For those who know me, this is not a real marathon. It’s a marathon in 4 parts with significant time between each race. Maybe the half marathon will be 2017’s goal.

What are your goals?

What are you working to accomplish in 2016? Let me know in the comments. It’s going to be a great year!!
